University Cleaning

Last week we looked at one solution for outdoor cleaning. This week, we will discuss a cleaning solution used in university and educational facility cleaning applications. University facilities present a unique cleaning challenge due to their size and scope, in addition to the various types of flooring that require cleaning.

At Eastern Washington University (EWU) there are more than 10,000 students, which means a high quantity of classrooms and areas to clean. EWU has approximately two million square feet of hard and soft flooring to maintain on a daily basis. When asked to describe his toughest cleaning challenge, the custodial manager at EWU, Ray Godin, said, “By far, our toughest cleaning problem is maintaining all of our carpets and a wide variety of hard-surface floors.” Godin was searching for an alternative to using separate pieces of equipment for cleaning each type of flooring. He found the Advance Adphibian™ extractor/scrubber that cleans both soft and hard surface floors.

The Adphibian is designed to enable cleaning staff to use one machine to clean carpets and scrub hard floors, maximizing efficiency and flexibility. The Adphibian offers a quick 30-second tools-free changeover to let operators switch between using a full-functioning carpet extractor and a cylindrical scrubber.

Outdoor Cleaning

Outdoor cleaning requires a machine that maximizes productivity while eliminating the need for outdoor water sources. Additionally, outdoor cleaning applications require equipment that can efficiently clean large areas without downtime.

Lindbergh Plaza is known as one of Atlanta’s premier shopping destinations. With 26 acres of retail shops, parking lots and sidewalks, it is a plum contract for a cleaning professional like Michael Caruso, co-owner of Atlanta-based Amerisweep, LLC since January 2009. Amerisweep specializes in cleaning parking decks and surface lots, and shortly after Caruso joined the company in early 2008, he decided that the walk-behind pressure washers that Amerisweep had been using were too labor-intensive for big cleaning jobs. A few months later, Caruso began using the Cyclone 4500, a high pressure surface cleaner from Advance, and contracts like Lindbergh Plaza were finally within his reach.

The Cyclone 4500 provides a 34-inch cleaning path with deep cleaning consistency. With a patented cleaning and recovery head, the Cyclone 4500 aggressively removes build-up marks and petroleum deposits from concrete and other surfaces with no discharge into the environment and no damage to cleaned surfaces. All water used in the cleaning process is recovered and filtered so that all contaminants are removed, contained and the water is recycled—leaving behind nothing but a clean surface that dries quickly and is usable immediately.
